This is a supremely rare specimen from the Mockingbird Mine in Mariposa, CA. Leaf gold is not something we ever really see from this vein system that traverses the Mocking Bird, the Artru, and the Colorado Quartz Mine. This piece is from an old collection and it has never been publicly available until today. The previous owner of this piece is one of the most legendary gold miners from the southern end of the California Motherlode. Noble Sparks kept this piece in his private collection for decades and it is only now coming available. Noble is responsible for or participated in finding many world class pieces of gold from the Mockingbird and the Colorado Quartz including the world famous Dragon specimen currently located at the Houston Museum of Nature and Science. With pieces in the Smithsonian and various other internationally known museums, Noble Sparks was without a doubt one of the most succusful miners of world class specimen gold the community has ever known. His recent passing was a dagger to the heart of the California gold mining community and he will be missed greatly by an entire generation of gold miners.
